Why an Ergotron sit stand workstation?
I’ve touched on this point in my article Sit Stand Desk Top Workstation – Budget-Friendly Way to a Healthier You and you’re more than welcome to take a look there, but I’ll give you a brief overview as well. As we’ve all heard that sitting at our desks for 8 hours a day and then going home to sit on the couch is possibly the worst health-related thing that you could do. So, what does someone do who wants to be health conscious but working at their desk is how they pay the bills?
Insert an Ergotron Workfit-tl sit stand workstation. This is an especially excellent option for us freelancers who have the freedom to customize our home offices exactly how we want them without jumping through corporate loops.
So, let’s take a look at what this Ergotron sit stand workstation WorkFit-TL workstation has in store for us.
WorkFit-TL, Sit-Stand Desktop Workstation
- Description
Convert your normal desk into a standing desk. 20 different height settings with a maximum height increase of 15″. Vertical up and down movement. Keyboard tray which also raises up with the monitors. Add on options such as a Dual monitor kit.
Ergotron Workfit-tl review
Pros:
- Large surface: This workstation can comfortably hold two monitors. Myself, a translator, save a tremendous amount of time working with two monitors, so I don’t have to go back and from my dictionary to my translation program.
- 20 height settings: I’m 6’3″ and it works great for me, but I think I’m at the upper limit. If you have really long legs, you might have a bit of a problem since there’s a significant difference between your sitting and standing height.
- No cranks – easy to lift/lower: It can move up to 40 lbs, so two monitors and keyboard aren’t a problem. There isn’t much room for anything else to weight it down, so it works great.
- Vertical movement: Some sit/stand desk converters move out (see photo) and so in small spaces (like my apartment) it would’ve been uncomfortable for me to move back. The TL’s movement is straight up and down, so you don’t lose space.
- No setup: open the box, put it on your desk and you’re ready to go.

Cons:
- Heavy: the product itself weighs 56 lbs so smaller people might need a hand to get it in the perfect spot
- Immobile keyboard tray: It would be nice if the keyboard tray slid back and forth depending on arm length/height/etc.
- Small keyboard tray: I use a full keyboard with number pad and using two monitors you need quite a bit of space to move the mouse back and forth. Unfortunately, I need to lift the mouse up and move it to reach from one screen to the other.
- Price: For me, and what the product is, 435 USD seems steep. For 300 or 400 more you could buy an automated desk which goes up and down at the push of a button and gives you all the surface space you could ever dream of.

Conclusion:
Is an Ergotron sit stand workstation workfit-tl worth it? I guess that depends on what you want to do with it. If you use a full keyboard, no, if you only need to use one monitor, there are better options out there. If you can afford an extra 400 USD, then I’d go with a full desk. However, all in all, this is a well-made and very sturdy sit stand workstation. The guarantee and support from Ergotron are top notch so they can answer any questions you have. If you work from home, as I’m assuming you do, and you’re working on a budget, because who isn’t? Then this could be a good starter option for you.

Interesting article and yes I think it is the next thing on my shopping list. Been spending way too much time in front of my laptop and my neck is screaming at me.
I am looking for a sit-stand work desk and I prefer a pure standing desk that can be lowered when needed. Do you have one to recommend, that won’t break the bank?
Hey Jude! Neck and back pain can really mess with your productivity and desire to sit down and work. Standing desks are great, and I do have a few suggestions for you to look at. If you take a look at my article: Best Birthday Presents for Health Conscious Freelancers the very first option is a standing desk. It’s the Apex Desk Elite series.
The one I chose has quite a few bells and whistles and is the bigger model (71″) but when you get to Amazon, you’ll see different sizes (48″, 60″) and different price points. Minimum, you’re probably looking at $450, but if it can improve your productivity, health and desire to work, I’d say it’s a pretty small price to pay. Good luck and Happy Freelancing!
